Braves deny interest in Chapman
There will be a number of Major League clubs pursuing Cuban pitching sensation Aroldis Chapman. But contrary to an SI.com report, the Braves are not currently in the mix for the 21-year-old left-handed pitcher.
“We don’t have any plans to meet with him at this time,” Wren said via an email response on Monday night.
The Orioles, Red Sox, White Sox, Cubs, Yankees, Mets, Athletics and Cardinals are among the teams that have reportedly shown interest in Chapman, who defected on July 1 while the Cuban National team was participating in an international tournament in The Netherlands.

any chance the braves payroll increases?
I figured the Chapman rumor was bogus from the get go.
Good question I’ve been hoping that they will increase payroll at least some we’re probably going to need it.
Speaking of payroll, is it just me or are there other fans who think that Frank Wren is just not up to the task?
He had the best pitching staff in the game of baseball and couldn’t build enough defense, offense and talent around it for the Braves to be successful this year.
And now I’m hearing that the Braves are going to trade part of their great pitching because Wren needs the financial flexibility to acquire position players, when he was the one who went off and spent 43 million in 2009 on starting pitching in the first place.
Talk about biting off your nose to spite your face, somebody is chasing his tail around in a circle.
