Farnsworth and Ankiel arrive for series finale

Now that Kyle Farnsworth has arrived, there’s probably much less chance that we’ll see a Braves pitcher get hit by a pitch in a third consecutive game.

Obviously nobody has even hinted that they have the slightest suspicion that Kris Medlen and Jair Jurrjens were intentionally hit with pitches during the first two games of this series.  But if the Reds needed reason not to even attempt to jam Tommy Hanson with a pitch today, somebody might want to show them footage of Farnsworth slamming former Cincinnati pitcher Paul Wilson to the ground on June 19, 2003 at Great American Ball Park.

After Farnsworth and Ankiel arrived around 11 a.m. ET this morning, they introduced themselves to their new Braves teammates, many of which still remember what happened to Wilson after he reacted to an inside fastball that Farnsworth threw during that game seven years ago.

As Farnsworth was walking toward his locker, Eric Hinske mimicked Chris Farley’s Saturday Night Live skit by playfully asking, “Remember when you choke slammed that dude?”

Farnsworth faintly smiled and continued walking while saying, “No, I don’t remember.”

Ankiel will start in center field during this afternoon’s series finale against the Reds.  Hinske will start at first base in place of Troy Glaus, who says he can’t blame any health-related issues on the fact that he has hit just  .160 in his past 30 games.

NOTES: The Braves will wait until Monday before deciding whether to place Martin Prado on the disabled list.  Prado said his right pinky finger was still “pretty sore” Sunday morning… Medlen said his right forearm, which was bruised by a Johnny Cueto pitch Friday night, was feeling much better Sunday.  He expects to complete his scheduled side session Tuesday.

I saw that game and i said like WWE announcer Good ole JR This is gonna be a slobberknocker after Farnsy slammed Wilson to the ground. Is there any truth that the Braves are gonna be going after Ellsbury or Figgins in the offseason or maybe in the waiver moves?

Chipper’s out AGAIN?

Why is Chipper out now?

It was all that stress of the trade deadline, he is just plumb tuckered out. Either that or he was up late spotlighting a few does.

This team is ice cold on offense. I am trying to inspire them…

Absolutely tough loss for Hanson. He doesn’t deserve a .500 record.

God, what an ugly road trip. We lose our star, we lose most of our lead, we don’t do diddly squat on the trading block. Let’s hope some homecooking helps. We have a lot of Home dates in August. Good riddance July.

Well, on the good side, we had some great pitching performances in Cincy. I was expecting a lot more balls out of the yard….Votto is impressive.

Utterly disappointing last few days. Failed to land a big bat at the deadline, lose ground to Phillies, and lose Prado (will likely head to DL with the ever cumbersome digit injury).

At least the Braves are headed home to face the even greater struggling Mets. Hope for a sweep.

I was really surprised to see them run Rick Ankiel out to the outfield only hours after he had arrived! Did they really expect him to do that much? I’m also wondering when the lightbulbs are going to go on and they move Heward down in the order where he would probably be more productive. Can you really see Hetward being called on to bunt a guy over to second if the leadoff batter gets on in a close game? What a waste of power !!!!! Also, does anyone know anything about what’s happening with Matt Diaz? I hope he’s not the guy they promised to Detroit for Wilkens Ramirez(?) whoever he is….

Well, would you look at that, while “some within the Braves organization” think Corey Hart looks like Jeff Francouer, virtually all of baseball chased a trade for him until the trade deadline and now he has signed a long term deal with the Brewers for reasonable money in today’s market(the Braves didn’t feel like they could submit to arbitration eligibility next year). I guess Milwaukee is now officially a bigger market team than Atlanta. Can’t wait to see this off-season’s salary dump.

Willie Cabrera was promoted to Gwinnett on Sunday. If he hits there, betcha he’ll be in ATL soon.

It wouldn’t expect to see Cabrera in Atl until maybe next year. I would expect to see Freeman in Minor in Atlanta uni’s before Cabrera. Speaking of Cabrera, I’m glad we got Melky out of center. He’s fine for a backup but he has never looked comfortable in CF. However, I’m not really sure how good of a CF Ankiel is, I haven’t seen him play that much.
