Santana appears to be heading toward more tough luck

It’s hard to believe Johan Santana arrived at Turner Field this afternoon with a whole lot of confidence.  His Mets teammates, who have scored two runs or fewer in four of their past six games, will draw the challenge of solving Tim Hudson, who has allowed one earned run or less in nine of his past 14 starts and six of his past eight.

Oh yeah, Santana will be also be staring at the Tomahawk-chested club that has frustrated him throughout his career.   In 11 career starts against the Braves, his teammates have never tallied more than two runs while he’s still been in the game.   This should better explain why he’s gone 2-6 with a 2.31 ERA in these outings.

And to add to Santana’s woes, he’ll once again be facing an Atlanta lineup that includes Matt Diaz.   After striking out in his final two at-bats of an Aug. 2 matchup, Diaz enters tonight’s game with a .533 career batting average against the former Cy Young Award winner.

The Braves will be looking to complete their first four-game sweep against the Mets since May 22, 2008.   In case you were wondering, Hudson provided eight solid innings that evening and beat Santana, who was charged with three earned runs.

Before allowing four earned runs during his Aug. 2 matchup against Hudson, Santana had never allowed more than three earned runs against the Braves.   In fact, he’s allowed two earned runs or less in eight of his 11 career outings against them.

Hudson hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of his four previous starts against the Mets.  The lone earned run he’s allowed them in 13 innings this year came of an RBI double produced by Carlos Beltran.

I haven’t seen the Mets lineup yet.  But I’m going to guess that Beltran will be playing.  He has hit .381 (24-for-63) with four homers in his career against Hudson.

BRAVES LINEUP:

Infante 4
Heyward 9
Prado 5
Lee 3
McCann 2
Diaz 7
Gonzalez 6
Cabrera 8
Hudson 1

I finally figured out why NC keeps coming up with his idiotic and ridiculous ideas. When he was coming up with his sign in name, he accidently hit a C instead of O in his name. Think about some of his suggestions. NoBravesfan82 is what he was hoping his name would be. Now we know he’s a Phillies fan. All of that behavior at Phillies ballpark (the fan who jumped the rail and got tazed, the beer being thrown on Victorino, being vomited on….since thats the typical Phillies fan, his ideas kinda show where’s he’s been raised from. By the way NO or NC or whatever you want to call yourself, did you ever pick up that 2k sports game of MLB Front Office manager? You need to. Then maybe your Phillies will go back to first place in a virtual world and you’ll be happy. Even if he/she/it never does tell us how old he is, Phillies fan—he kinda fits into that mold.

And back onto baseball matters: I sure hope Hudson can go at least 7 innings tonight. With Kawakami getting the start tomorrow, I get a feeling we’re gonna need the bullpen at full strength. You guys did catch that whole rigamaroll with the Nats and Fish last night didn’t yall? Incredibily unprofessional on both sides. I just hope the Marlins are so fired up after that we catch hell down in FL facing them. Dolphin/Sunlife/whatever they are calling it now never does seem to be quite so friendly to us when we are down there, especially with our stellar road record.

Whoops, forgot to put the DON’T in the middle of that about I hope we DON”T catch a lot of problems in FL.

Real excited for the game tonight. I am real happy with where the team is right now, especially with the depth increasing. I have been reading a lot of a possible comeback by Mark Prior trying to make a comeback. I see this as a no-lose situation. If we would invite him to Spring Training to see what he has (this is pretty far in the future obviously) and he has got at least most back of what he had then we look really smart. If he comes to ST and doesn’t look back to form then we can say we gave him a chance. Why not get more depth? You have to look at how well Hudson has come back, and again stating the obvious, and wonder how well he can come back, but it is not an automatic. He could be converted to a closer, you never know.

It’s 11 pm and the Braves lost 4-2 because of bad fielding and bad pitching. Santana wasn’t that good. Mets just lucky tonight. Still a sweep would have been nice since Phillies won 12-11 in Denver. Can’t win them all but this one hurt.

Maybe tomorrow. We start 10 game winning streak. I hope.

What do you get when you cross an impotent offense with a porous defense? You got it, the Atlanta Braves.

Well Pherris, I guess you don’t often get to show up here on a positive note, so you took this advantage. How’s that wild card race going?

billybobreefer…..Actually, I don’t show up here much because I was raised not to pick on the short bus crowd. But sometimes I can’t resist. Good to see the Braves stellar defense come through again yesterday. This weekend should prove to be interesting because in the Braves and Marlins we get to see two of three worse defenses go at it for the annual Stone Glove Award. Extra credit question: Which two NL teams have the best ERA since July 21 at 3.01? Hint: It is not the Braves.

Wow, what a homotard. It’s nice knowing Phillie fans are such crybabies, for a lack of a better word that won’t be censored. I’d bet on NC taking him in a battle of wits.

Brandon Woodworth…..”Homotard”? Why is it that no matter what the discussion or debate we can count on some little Grit mentioning sexual preference. But I get it, it is hard for Brandon to get his little mind around the fact that his mama is also his aunt. And, he is proud as a peacock that his daddy starred in “Deliverence”. Brandon, how are those banjo lessons your daddy is giving you going?

pherrisphaggot – Are you the kid that got tasered? Or the guy that intentionally vomited on an 11 year old girl? Maybe the battery hurler?
A Phillie fan making fun of regional demographics is a little like Mel Gibson giving marriage counseling… doesn’t make a whole lot of sense…

This guy is cute. Trolling like a mug. And ignorance is so bliss bravo. You got to love the determination of a guy who cares enough to go to his rival teams beat writers blog to trash talk the other team. He’s doing a great service to his team. You know, the one that’s in second place. And has been since, um, BEFORE July 21st? Suck on that stat, troll.

I love having PherretPhood around. It will be even more fun as we push down the pennant stretch. It will be great to have a phunching bag as we win it all.
