Braves reveal NLDS roster

With some uncertainty still surrounding Takashi Saito’s right shoulder, the Braves opted to include five rookie relievers on their National League Division Series roster.
The Braves NLDS roster will actually include a total of seven rookies  —  right fielder Jason Heyward, second baseman Brooks Conrad, right-handed relievers Craig Kimbrel, Cristhian Martinez and Brandon Beachy; left-handed relievers Jonny Venters and Mike Dunn.

This marks the first time in franchise history that the Braves have had seven rookies on a postseason roster.  Yesterday, I indicated that they would like have eight.  But since then, I’ve learned Diory Hernandez is not a rookie.
The Braves will carry two catchers  — Brian McCann and David Ross  — and an 11-man pitching staff.  They plan to use a three-man rotation during this best-of-five series.

Catchers: McCann , Ross
Infielders: Derrek Lee, Conrad, Omar Infante, Alex Gonzalez, Troy Glaus  and Diory Hernandez
Outfielders:Rick Ankiel, Nate McLouth, Matt Diaz, Eric Hinske, Heyward, Melky Cabrera
Starting pitchers:  Derek Lowe, Tommy Hanson, Tim Hudson
Relief pitchers:  Billy Wagner, Venters, Kimbrel, Peter Moylan,  Dunn,  Beachy, Kyle Farnsworth,  Martinez.

Not 100%, but I think Beachy was just converted to a starter early in the season. Was a reliever before that.

@tibriley – My guess is that Beachy is there for any long-relief situations that may arise. Hopefully they don’t need him in that role because it would mean one of the starters got hammered.

Beachy is there to start Game 4 if Lowe can’t go, or do some mop up work.
Thanks for the update Mark. Let’s go get them, GO BRAVES!

Man, that’s a blue-collar roster, isn’t it? Well, they got us this far. Go Braves!

“Relief pitchers: Billy Wagner, Venters, Kimbrel, Peter Moylan, Dunn, Beachy, Kyle Farnsworth, Martinez.”

So one of our relievers, Beachy, has never pitched in relief in the major leagues. Great. Does anyone know if he has pitched in relief in the minors?

Thanks for the compliment. Of course being “superior” to your intellect, well that’s not all that complimentary, if you know what I mean.

Beachy was a reliever until June of this year. He’ll be fine.

Hey Bill, I will defer to your “supposedly superior intellect” on such matters, as I thought just had to be on 40 man roster by Aug 31 to be eligible, which Boscan was.

Anyway, I did pretty well – I had kept Glaus off and added Boscan – which was my only error. I did a whole lot better than you did, though. You failed to post your roster prediction. Of course yours will probably come out today. And with your supposedly superior intellect, that would make a lot of sense.

You have to tell me why you predict the Braves will win. They could not beat mediocre pitching on the road for most of the season. In April, with Chipper and Prado, they were awful.
They cannot hit, cannot field, have no speed to steal a base, are unable or unwilling to play small ball (witness inning one with runner on second, no outs, not getting him over to third…2nd is no place for a Heyward to bat), and have shown no ability to hit in the clutch, especially against quality pitching, during the recent weeks. Gonzalez has not squared a ball up in a month and is in a key position at 5.
In short, I see nothing that encourages me that anything will change.
Remember the philosopher who said, it is folly to do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome.

Looking forward to another great blog. Good luck to the author! all the best!Chanel|Manolo Blahnik

We know nothing of what will happen in future, but by the analogy of past experience. Do you think so? jordan
