Braves activate Heyward and place Walden on the DL

The Braves activated Jason Heyward from the disabled list and placed him in the starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the Dodgers at Turner Field.

To create a roster space for Heyward, the Braves placed right-handed reliever Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Heyward has been sidelined since undergoing an emergency appendectomy on April 22 in Denver.  The 23-year-old right fielder spent the past week playing for Triple-A Gwinnett on a Minor League rehab assignment.

After remaining relatively sedentary for the first week after the surgery, Heyward steadily regained his strength and started working himself into baseball shape.  He hit .300 (6-for20) in the six games he played for Gwinnett.

Heyward batted .121 with two home runs and a .519 OPS in the 17 games he played for Atlanta before being placed on the disabled list.

Welcome back heyward… hell of a return.

Jordan Schafer and Evan Gattis need to play every day. Huge raw talent and both are coming in to their prime years. Uggla and BJ are a mess. We need to bite the bulllet, pay half the salary on Uggla and move him. This is the 3rd year of this crap and he ain’t any getting better. I don’t know what you do with BJ but he needs a swing doctor bad. Not sure being a regular is the best thing for him right now. QTip needs to realize he made a couple of huge mistakes and try to right the ship. This team can be amazing but you can’t carry 2 regulars who are hitting in the .050 range with RISP. You just can’t do it. Both of those guys have the ugliest swings I have ever seen in Major league baseball and the results support that. Someone needs to hit them in the head with a bat, get them to go back to basics and completely retool their approach at the plate. Not the ideal scenario for your 2 highest paid players. But it’s get real time.
