Moylan's rally head

Looking to imitate John Smoltz last year, Peter Moylan shaved the top of his head and saw the Braves win a few games over the next few days.  Urged by Adam LaRoche today, Moylan once again gained this same appearance and he plans to keep it until at least Sept. 20.

When asked what he's calling this new look, Moylan said, "Rally head".   Going to write a story about this for the site.  Just wanted to show you what is currently under the Australian reliever's hat.

He has closer written all over him. Even Dave LaRoche wasn't that crazy, well maybe.......

I've got to admit that as much as I've doubted him, I love what Wren has done. 6 quality starters, and LaRoche has REALLY been a worthwhile pickup. If we slide into the playoffs we're a major threat.

And Moylan? LOVE HIM! I'm actually really hoping for a first round matchup between the Braves and the Cards... how weird would it be to face Smoltz in the post season?

Watch Chipper today - I've noticed he's had a few big games when Hanson's been on the mound. Must be trying to justify all his spring training claims about Hanson having the best stuff on the club - he makes sure Tommy wins.

Ok, now how good is Hanson going to be when he starts to get the corner calls that they don't give him now? The umpire made him basically throw it down the middle in the 1st and his stuff was good enough to survive. Most pitchers get shelled in that situation.

Ever notice how sensitive umpires are when they know you know they're pinching your pitcher on purpose?

It has been an interesting dynamic. Bobby's going to get tossed soon if it keeps up.

Well, it was a disaster last night why not try it again tonite. Pinch hit Norton and bring in Medlen to relieve. I mean I understand wanting to get Medlen back out there to get the bad taste out of his mouth. BUT THE VERY NEXT NIGHT? and now he's getting shelled again, that's really gonna help hi confidence. Come on Bobby. Your ability to burnout a bullpen is legend but at least TRY to do something that looks like you want to win.

For informatiions sake. I started writing that post before Medlen had faced a batter. Now he just gave up the lead and Bobby has decided it's time to pull him. Guess that really helped the kid's confidence, huh?

and I imagine that this won't do wonders for Hanson's best buddy relationship with Medlen. Man, Tommy should have 12 wins already.

and SF and Colorado lost. we need this win.

Can anyone tell me why Tommy was pulled? I was working and just now able to watch. I glanced while I was working and we were up 3-1. What the heck happened?

My bad, I just heard why. Wow! 104 pitches in 5 innings with those stats? I just caught the webcast and it switched to standard mode right before Bobby got ejected. This ump is a piece. He was just looking for an excuse to eject him. I hate these wuss umpires. Make ****** calls, then get called on it and can't take the heat for their own mistakes.

Bobby Cox has made very poor decisions with the bull pen the last two nights to lose important ball games. He also brings in Norton to pinch hit with men in scoring postion-- this doesn't make sense. Norton was good last year but he just doesn't have it this year. There are good hitters on the bench that could do the job. He brings Medlen in tonight (Friday) after pitching alot of innings this week and leaves him out there again after being hit hard. Anyone who knows baseball could see he didn't have it by the way he was throwing. This isn't good for him or the team. What is wrong with Bobby? It looks like he is not interested in winning the wild card! The Braves could have won 4 straight if better decisions were made by their manager. What happened with the extra players that were just brought up?? I have been a Braves fan since 1976... They have had the pitching and the everyday players to finish on top this year.

Kritters, Bobby's terrible pitching decisions are legendary (as posted by billreef). You should never be surprised by his poor decisions (see "Greg Norton"). However, I'm apparently not allowed to state opinions like this without being called names by certain narcissitic douchebags, so I'll leave it at that.

I don't care is Lowe has to throw 200 pitches tonight he needs to go at LEAST 7 tonight to give the pen a break

Tommy's pitch count was a direct result of his rookie "hazing", being pinched by a veteran ump with a brother pitching in the league. Any lesser pitcher would have been shelled. You could tell the Marlins didn't even offer at close pitches. They knew very quickly. Tommy had to throw the ball right down the middle and still held them to 2 hits. Every 0-1 or 1-1 pitch that got called a ball cost Hanson 2 or 3 pitches per at bat. He did a masterful job of keeping them from just teeing off on him. Wolf knew he was doing it, that's why he got so mad at the dugout so quickly.

Many times runners for other teams start rallies because they run on the grass and get hit by the ball but the one time on of our guys do it he is called out

It was the right call; but you are absolutely right bravesforever. I knew as soon as I saw the play that Bobby was getting tossed, even before the camera showed him on the field arguing.

Wow. Kelly Johnson came in to pinch hit and struck out. Go figure. Kelly and Norton couldn't hit my grand mother in a crosswalk right now. Bobby is way beyond dedicated, he is neck deep in stupid. This season is officially over. We haven't put together a winning streak more than 5 games all season and we aren't even getting close to that right now. We have been right around .500 all season and that is where we will finish. It ain't good enough. We will finish 3rd or 4th in the WC race and we need to start thinking about how we don't repeat that next year. I have to believe that the next thoughts need to be is how to change magement so that our talented young team has a chance to win.

...well at least the Braves were kind enough to keep us interested until football season... GO JACKETS!!!

I've tried to be optimistic all year but, I'm not sure if I can be anymore. I'm gonna watch the rest of the games until we are eliminated but unless we turn into an inferno like the rockies did earlier this season I'm not sure if we can make it. I like this team but we never seem to fire on all cylinders like the great teams do. When we pitch we don't hit and when we hit we can't pitch

Heyward got promoted to Gwinnett.
